Catalunya is one of the first clusters of food industry in Europe

Over the last 30 years, the sector has strongly bet for internationalization and exportation that have increased by more than 1,200%. The exportations of the Catalan food industry growth is a 47,20% larger in the last five years and are almost doubled (+91%) in the last 10 years.
Nowadays, Catalunya is one of the first food industry clusters in Europe. At the same time, it is one of the first regions in Europe with the largest increase in the value of food and beverages in 2015:
Catalunya (+ 9.95 %), France (+3.97%), Germany (+ 3.67%) and Denmark (+ 1,90%).
The leading importing countries of Catalan food industry products are France, Italy, Germany, Great Britain and Japan, and the main vendors in Catalunya are France, Germany, Brasil, the United States and Italy.
The food and beverage sector, the first manufacturing industry employment in Catalonia, not only is one of the most important sectors of the economy, but also one of the areas with more growth opportunities. In fact, experts agree that the food industry is emerging as a major engine of the recovery of the Catalan economy. These figures are from the Agriculture, Cattle, Fisheries and Food Department, and were presented by the councilor Meritxell Serret in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Prodeca.
